Afraid of mixing and matching your prints? You shouldn’t be. In five steps, we’ll help you learn about mixing prints, matching them, and pairing your patterns like a pro.
STEP ONE: STRONG VS. ACCENT
Olivia Palermo shows us how to rock not two, but THREE prints at the same time. She chose to use her stripes as neutrals and focused on the varying scales, while shifting the attention to her beautiful jacket.
*TIP: You can always use stripes instead of neutrals, for quick fixes.
STEP TWO: MIXING PRINTS WITH NEUTRALS
Neutrals = stripes. Stripes + print = magic. This outfit follows the stripes as neutrals rule, as well as having one accent piece paired with a neutral one. The combination is perfect!
STEP THREE: PLAY WITH TEXTURES & SIZES!
Some prints are larger than others, which adds dimension and flare to any outfit. Don’t fear different scales, instead use them to add a twist to your look. Here, both outfits chose to play with a dominant color and mix up the sizes of their prints. The outcome totally works!
STEP FOUR: FOCUS ON THE COLOR, NOT THE PRINT
If you’re having trouble finding a match for a busy print, choose a color and focus on it. Like in the previous outfit, color is the main source of combination. The blue from the skirt is matched with the stripey top and again, a brilliant look using stripes as neutrals.
STEP FIVE: ACCESSORIZE!
Accessories always pull an outfit together. If your outfit has a lot going on, find a neutral bag or killer piece of jewelry and combine. This outfit uses two types of stripes, both horizontal and vertical, and finishes it off with a classic Chanel piece.
